| no partners | | I am still beating away at AZT #32, the Mount Elden passage. This was the 4th out-and-back dayhike I have done in order to complete the segment, and I still have at least one more hike to do, the part through the Picture Rocks area, and crossing 89.
Today I chatted with an enthusiastic section hiker, a youngish woman. She was hiking from I-40 to the S. Rim, and said she had already completed 100 miles elsewhere at another time. I also saw a Native American man of upper middle age, who passed me twice, jogging slowly. The second time he told me he'd run 44 miles that day! I talked to one very friendly mountain biker as well who said he enjoys talking to thru-hikers when he sees them.
I was sad to see the sign vandalism, on one of the signs. (See photos.)
It was amusing to get a photo of a freight train at my turnaround point that was almost identical to a photo I took in the same spot a few days ago when hiking the north end of Passage #31. The freight cars were very similar. [ photo ]
Tomorrow if I'm up for it I'll finish Passage #32. |
