An early start at 5 am and back to the crosscut trailhead before 9 am. I didn't hike in the sun until passed the gate keeper on the way back. I took a half mile detour after not paying attention. There were several hikers on the way down but I wouldn't say it was crowded. This was the first hike I did in AZ with my roommate 30 years ago (1988). I talked someone else into going again a week later. Over the years I've ran into and hiked with many others on this trail. It's still good in you can avoid the crowd.
