The turn up Deering Canyon turn ugly and the bush wacking and scrambling got intense a few times but not impossible. I thought we saw a bolt on a previous trip up there but if so it's not there now. There was some new webbing and some rope so some others have been poking around up there too. A side trip to a possible dwelling spot yielded a few pot sherds and some pipe driven into the ground (why?). The trip back down was easier as I knew where not to go and found it possible to drop down boulders where it would difficult to climb up. It was nice to be back on Cavalry trail (although a bit overgrown) as the temperature warmed up and still not other hikers in sight. I didn't see other person until after passing the Cholla Tank turn coming up Second Water trail. There was a diamondback snake crawling off to the side as I neared the junction with the Dutchman trail. A nice trip but warm enough to require plenty of water. |
