But then when we went to cross over to Arachnophobia we started our descent too soon and ended up back in scropion. Funny enough there is a second crossover right where we came out so we had another chance without backtracking. That route was a steep ascent up a route that felt like we were stepping grandmother’s plates.
Anyway, soon we were in the right canyon and ready to go. The first section of the canyon descended the vertical quickly. In total there were 10 rappels and most of them were back to back. The rock in Arachnophobia was pretty loose so downclimbs were challenging trying to find hand and feet placement. That also made the rappels a bit more exciting as well. Nothing like rappelling of a cairn anchor while trying not to shock load it but having to go down a crumbly wall. The big rappel was 170 feet but it felt like more due to the conditions I just described and a free hang for most of it. I was glad to be done with that rappel!
The views of the area were stunning. What a great way to spend a day!
