A little canyon that was on my radar during our trip out here last year but didn’t go for it because of how dry the 2017 winter was.

Even though Oak Creek is a fairly large drainage it doesn’t seem to get substantial or reliable water flow, especially not compared to its big paralleling cousins Coon and Cherry.

We started from the bottom near the Cougar Canyon confluence and worked our way up soon greeted by some solid pools and shelfs.

Little tough to navigate the canyon with a 55lb boxer as there were numerous sections I had to pick up little Payton and put her on ledges to avoid deep water or spots impassable for a dog.

The cave caught our eye so while Buford rocked the photos down in the canyon Linnea, Payton and I climbed up to the cave which is confirmed only a cave not ruins.
Although in the back of the cave there were smaller little openings within and just like some of the ruins I’ve visited in the Anchas there were smaller rooms, piled with dirt and debris and had a temperature increase along with substantial amounts of flies inside so I did find that interesting.

Overall a sweet little canyon with pink rock, pinnacles and photogenic pools that make for an enjoyable little stroll in a special place.

Plenty of deep pools which some appear to hold some form of perennial water in the narrows.
