| no partners | | A fun and adventurous day venturing down into the heart of Hardscrabble Canyon.
The approach was mostly downhill from our start so the friend that I brought along and myself made it to the canyons edge in good time.
The “gentle” looking ridge we used was of course not as friendly as it appeared once we began our descent.
A few little easy class 3 climbs followed by waist high grass, prickly pear and agave as far as the eye can see on a pretty significant slope angle.
As with my last trip into the canyon I was again just blown away by the seldom seen humbling views experienced during this trip.
Just a raw, rugged and massive canyon with many signs of ancient civilizations, wildlife and jaw dropping views.

Made it out of the belly of the beast just before complete sunset and then had a hearty 4 miles back to the truck under headlamp enjoying the unique views and lights of Camp Verde shining bright deceivingly close away.
Sore bodies and worn out shoes are a standard in the Mazzy backcountry and it’s what I live for! |
