| no partners | | I was in Seattle for a conference. Didn't have a lot of time to research hikes, but found this one posted on HAZ. It was relatively close to the city and was doable in the timeframe I had available. Earlier in the week, Seattle had experienced historic snowfall, with schools and other services shutting down. By the time we rolled into town, the weather was starting to moderate, and the roads were mostly clear.
This hike is right off a thoroughfare, and despite its curious name (which has nothing to do with #2), it is apparently quite popular in the area. Given the weather, I was a little surprised to see so many cars in the parking area, though it was not full.
Poo Poo Point is a take off point for paragliders, who then land in an open field right next to the trailhead. In fact, there are signs as you leave the parking area to "look up" and make sure no one is coming in for a landing!
The hike itself climbs through the forest at a steady pace. I can see this as a good go-to workout hike, and we encountered a few trail runners using it for such. The moss on the trees is pretty cool, essentially coating all of the trunk and branches.
When we reached the Point, we had it to ourselves, and the on-and-off drizzle turned in to snow, with some large flakes coming down. The low cloud cover limited visibility, but we enjoyed the achievement and the ambiance, before heading back down.
Given more time, I'd probably choose a different hike, but this one was certainly worth doing, and I'm glad we did it. |
