| partners | | Did this with a buddy and our two teenage sons as a "prep" hike to get ready for some overnight backpacking adventures; hence the reason for a heavy pack on a day trail. This was an eye opener for me for sure and confirmed just how far removed I am from my time in the Marine Corps in my early twenties. The climb out at the end humbled me and made me realize that copious amounts of beer and whiskey is probably not the best diet for backpacking success.
In any case, the hike was a success and the area is beautiful and unique. Most importantly, we accomplished our goal of figuring out the best way to configure our packs and what gear was working and what we should replace. The old hiking boots I had performed absolutely horribly and thankfully I had some moleskin to temper the huge blister that began to form on my left heel. Those boots have already been replaced with a great pair of Oboz that seem to fit 100 times better and provide great support and traction.
Hopefully this will be the first trip report of many to come. |
