| partners | | We participated in the AZT in a Day event signing up for 2 sections of the Happy Jack passage hiking southbound from Gooseberry trailhead. Unfortunately, we misjudged the sections and realized after we already started hiking that our shuttle car was in wrong spot. Turns out our section ended at highway 87 about 5 miles from where we parked the car. Regardless we continued hiking and decided we would make a decision at the end which was 25 miles away so we had some time. We met a thru hiker near Bargaman Park and talked to him for about 10 minutes. He was heading southbound with plans to finish around first week of November.
Some of the Happy Jack has new trail which is not officially open yet but it’s pretty much complete except signage and some finishing touches. We ended up doing about 12 miles of the new trail and it was very cool to hike it instead of the old section that is all on dirt road. Trail crews did an awesome job and put together a really nice AZT experience!! With great trail we also made good time and reached the 25 mile point on FR 82 junction about 4pm. However, with the vehicle parked at FR 82 and 5 miles to go I decided to trail run to highway 87 while Kathy drove to the end. We also ran into the thru hiker from earlier in the day and gave him some water. Great day on the trail even though we miscalculated the sections. |
