I left the house this morning with a loose plan to get some food and head over to lookout mountain. As I was eating my breakfast burrito on Shea, my laziness kicked in and I thought, I'll just go to the trailhead off Shea and 40th st. instead. Once I was there I had no plan at all as to what I was doing. I bike around trail 100 in that area quite a bit and I've always wondered what was straight ahead on the trail/road out of the parking lot, so I headed that way.

I ended up going up to what was labeled on the trail post as "Twobit Peak" also showed on my stava as "Dixie Peak" and what came up on here as "2429" It sounds like these are all the same, and I was certainly in the area even though I think I went slightly off course at the top. When I reached the ridge to where you can see over to the other side I went right instead of left. People were going both ways. I think left if the official peak. Gives me an excuse to do it again.

As this being a new hike to me, I really enjoyed it. The trail is rougher, loose rocks, very steep, than many of the groomed/maintained peaks in the area. Even with all the rain the trail was not muddy or wet, but that area always seems to drain well. Several people out there in the cold weather, but not nearly the crowds of the nearby peaks. I also got a kick out of being able to look one way and see Piestewa Peak and look the other way and see Camelback. I will be back for sure.
