With fond memories of Arrastra Creek Trail #275 I created a lower loop of a larger loop Bruce created in 2013.

Started on FR67 just outside the Pine Flats community boundary. Headed east on FR67 1.1 mi then FR52 Senator HWY 0.7 mi to FR84 which would take us up to Keegan Trail #91. However, an aluminum gate with two daisy chained locks had us crawl under since it's not signed stay out, private or such.

A half mile up FR84 is the theoretical beginning or end of Keegan Trail #91. We encountered a plastic No Trespassing sign with "under video surveillance" handwritten below. The sign in hindsight may have been for an adjacent stock tank. A purposely misdirected, "oh did we write that on a no trespassing sign, it's just video surveillance for our tank". The twin gate access was not locked, in excellent easy access condition and not in a FS mapped private area. I took a stab at getting the official status on this one and Elouise Trail #306. Will update if/when I get response. #306 clearly goes through an FS mapped private area. Both are currently listed on the FS website. Hikebot got the trail data from a public gov gis file many full super worm moons ago.

With an easy bypass and not seeking trouble we aborted Keegan and backtracked to Senator HWY. Took Senator up. Briefly gandered the virtually relicless Orofino Mine just before Senator crosses Yankee Doodle Trail #284. #284 was realigned long ago. The new FS topo map still shows the old alignment.

We saw an ACE truck parked at Senator/#284. Figured we'd cross paths with 'em. Soon saw a man above and ahead. Oddly never made contact. Perhaps he was off trail. We quizzed each other later to verify we both saw him. Check.

#284 holds a solid 4 out of 5 rating for myself. Views galore. Decent trail for the location. Steep in a couple sections keeps the riff raff out. Soon after passing the Elouise junction coming down from Pine Mountain ( Benchmark GOOD ) we met the ACE crew of six sharpening chainsaw blades. Bruce chatted up a storm with the chatter of that group.

Soon onto my fav Arrastra Creek Trail #275 we lunched in the pines. On this gusty day we lucked out in a calm break shielded by the mountain layout. Bruce was weary of #275. Exceeded my anticipations. Probably a bore for alley taggers to hashtaggers. Varied terrain, several creek crossings, occasional pines, occasional torched areas, no bushwhacking or blood loss.

Pine Flat Connector Trail #9275 was the ticket back to square one. The lush green cattail environment took a beating from last years wildfire. Portions of trail are swallowed in tall grass with occasional tall red thorn whips. Near Pine Flats access has changed a bit over the years. We sailed through without crossing a no trespassing notice in the direction we traveled skipping off #9275. Minimal barking and light gunfire. Unrelated... Nevertheless, off trail in the creek just west of the community would be a better future option.
