First backpacking trip with John back in town. The wishlist included cool temps and few people, and Preston delivered. We took the utility road/Telephone Trail down, which was pretty hot in the late morning. But before we knew it we were setting up tents and hammocks in the shade of giant firs. Most of the first afternoon was spent setting-up camp, lounging, and looking around for various historical artifacts. Before dinner, we hiked a ways down Six Shooter to watch the sun set on Globe.

Next day was...well...lounging and looking around for various historical artifacts. And before dinner, we hikes a ways down Six Shooter to watch the sun set on Globe. But this time we were prepared with plenty of libations for a great Happy Hour. It was cooler that night, and my hammock set-up combined with a light bag left me cold and mostly sleepless.

Not until we were packed and ready to leave Sunday did we see a soul. Actually we heard it: A woman screaming obscenities at her poor partner for some infraction. Oh well, I guess we all have bad days. Other than that brief and violent shattering of silence, we had the place entirely to ourselves. It was nice to escape COVID-19 and feel normal.

For the return trip, I was treated to a series of Tom Petty songs on the radio and a chance reunion with rwstorm in Miami. Not two hours earlier I was telling John and Preston about my first run-in to rwstorm at Ferndale Springs TH nearly seven years prior!
