Sadly, this was the first time backpacking with the Unruhs in 2.5 years. I decided to make it interesting by bringing our new pup on the trip. Various school and forgetfulness issues delayed our trailhead arrival until 7pm Friday evening. Knowing the popularity of this trail and accounting for COVID crowds, we prepared ourselves to turn around and car camp late. That was almost the case, but we found a small site a couple miles in and made it work.

Although not nearly as nice as some of the choice sites 3-4 miles in, Baldy is nothing to sneeze at regardless of where you camp. Saturday morning, the newbies to the area were stunned by the beauty. This included Meia, who seemed to notice the beauty between her obsessive squirrel chasings. After a slow start, we finally hiked up trail to check the area out. The traffic was easily 50% higher than I've seen in the area, but everyone was pleasant and respectful of the land. Although we miraculously had no rain, you could tell that the area had been receiving it's typical drenching.

Sunday came too fast, but I have to give the kids props for packing-up their own gear. Makes a dad proud... Their reward was Culvers on the way back in town. We enjoyed rain the entire drive back, taking the edge off of our return.
