A well-paced hike with an old backpacking pal of mine. I hadn't been on top of Wasson in at least 25 years, and never via this route. I had always gone up the Kings Canyon trail. We had it mostly to ourselves early on. Later on we did see a few hikers, but it definitely wasn't crowded. Weather was great. We started at 7:30 a.m. wearing warm clothes but were able to take off our jackets, beanies and gloves before long.

No payment is needed when starting at this trailhead. It's a Pima County trailhead, and you do not have to pay to hike into Saguaro National Park from this route.

I lived in Tucson for 13 years, 1986-99. I'm back, will be staying here until early March, and am looking to mostly hike trails I haven't hiked before, so this fit the bill. I also haven't reached the summit via the Hugh Norris Trail, so I may do that before I leave for my summer seasonal.
