On Jan. 13, I met up at Sabino with two old hiking pals, who used to be in my core group more than 20 years ago, when I lived in Tucson, and even after I moved to the White Mountains in 1999. I hadn't seen either of them since at least 2002. It was fun catching up. They do these trails, some of which are unofficial, quite often just for quick exercise.

The drought conditions were terrible that day. After that, we had a bit of rain (I was wintering in Tucson) but it helped very little.

We parked and started the hike at the overflow parking area, by the Southern Arizona Rescue Association building. I remember that area as being the Tucson Rod and Gun Club. Some things in Tucson have really changed since I lived there.
