| no partners | | I started out in the dark, at 6:30 a.m., with an old backpacking buddy who lives very close to this trail. She had to start her "work from home" at 8, so she had only forty minutes to hike. Nonetheless, it was fun to see her again and hike with her. When she turned around I continued on. I saw the sun rise over the side of Rincon Peak. Then the trail dipped behind a hill, and I was in the cold shade again. I turned around in a sunny saddle, which has views toward the Santa Ritas.
Looking toward the city as the sun rose, it was interesting to see the giant shadow the Rincon Mountains made, all across the valley.
I'll be living in Tucson through early March, so I hope to be hiking a lot of places I somehow missed when I actually had a home here, raised my family here. This trail was one of those I had never set foot on before. Since I used to live more on the NW side of town, the Rincons seemed to be way out in Timbuktu. Now that I'm on the far east side, I can easily access them. Far east, man!
It's great to be back. For over 30 years, Tucson has felt like home to me, even though I haven't lived here for the past 21 years. I've visited often, and have many friends here. |
