| no partners | | After a solid storm that dumped between 18-24" of fresh champagne pow I headed up the the pass to play in the snow. Fox Curve seemed like a good option, a simple 4 mile loop with minimal elevation gain.
A couple of skiers had broken the trail ahead of me, but I learned a little over a mile in that they were in search of some backcountry steeps and not following the loop. I retraced my steps to where the loop turned away from their tracks and set out to break some trail. I knew I couldn't possibly do this for 3 miles, but I figured I'd do my part and made it almost 3/4 of a mile in just under 2 hours. DEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! 
A couple of others had followed my track but turned around and headed back when they reached me ... the end of the broken trail!
Finally, a group of 6 passed me at about the point I had decided to turn back anyway. They made it about 300 yards before also turning back and we all hiked back out to the trailhead within view of each other.
Despite not completing the loop, it was an absolutely magical day in the mountains.  |
