| no partners | | We did this hike almost 7 years ago to the day. The views weren't quite as good this time around and there was still a lot of snow which was a surprise. Still, there were views to be had and weather was sunny. Maybe 10 or so cars at the trailhead when we arrived and while we saw several people and dogs on the trail, it didn't feel crowded. The last 2 miles or so to the radio tower are completely snow covered. It was hard, packed down snow and the majority of it was in the shade so it was do-able in just boots. A little slippery coming down but again not too bad. As we got close to the radio tower we could hear several louds bangs and couldn't figure out if somebody was shooting something or what. Turns out it was snow and ice falling from the radio tower onto the metal roof of the building just below the tower. Made for some loud noises but with the sun out today it might be all gone by tomorrow. No views of the Olympics from the tower today. We didn't continue past the radio tower today in search of Rainier views but will come back again. |
