| no partners | | Saw this on the topo maps (elsewhere labeled as "Little Round Mountain Trail #9") and decided to check it out, since it looked like a good camping area as well. Got to the campsite (just in time to beat someone else to it) which was outstanding, set up, and headed out walking. Didn't really expect there to actually be much of a trail left, but to my surprise, there were actually cairns all the way across Little Round Mountain (though it takes a more westerly course than the topo). Once to the rim, we dropped down to a grassy saddle, where there was a phenomenal view of Secret Canyon, right above Secret Arch (which can actually be seen from the rim).
Followed the track along the rim; there were actually a couple stretches where the trail could still be seen. Fairly easygoing even on the parts with no sign of trail left. Kept going until we got to the end of the route per the map, which was a rock outcropping with nice views of the main part of Secret Canyon, and a view to the labyrinth of canyons to the northwest.
On the way back, we tried to head directly to a road grade at the big saddle, but this turned out to be a mistake.
This "trail" is a hidden gem. |
