Used up some of my copious air miles on a surprise visit to Toronto Ontario to see my parents, brother, and his family over the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend. That 2nd Monday in October has traditionally been near the height of autumn colours near my hometown of Burlington and my original hiking stomping grounds the Bruce Trail.
Sunday morning we got up before dawn and had a hearty breakfast at the local Coras. We headed along the Bronte River towards the escarpment near Mount Nemo and Rattlesnake Point before trekking north to the Eramosa River near Rockwood. Eventually we trekked even further north to the Grand River near Belwood Lake before heading west along the river valley and into Mennonite country.
We took our time to explore the 100 year plus factory ruins near Elora before taking the back roads to West Montrose and the famous covered bridge. Lunch in St. Jacobs and continued further into Mennonite country near the Nith River and Conestogo Lake looking for rainbow coloured stands of hard wood.
Great times seeing the family blood all together
