Not too many big boats at that time, but the water was a bit choppy. The passage back to Antelope Canyon has a 5 mph speed limit so there was not really any issue with wake from boats or jet skis. It's still advisable to stick to the edges of the canyon. It's a beautiful paddle, and was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday. About a half mile from the beach, the water gets very murky with lots of branches and wood floating in the water.
The beach is small but there is room to pull up kayaks. The hike through the slot canyon is gorgeous, and even a claustrophobic like me had no problems. We hiked back to a spot where there was a ladder which you could climb to continue on but that was where we turned around. The paddle back through was great until we hit the lake where it was very choppy and slow going. Boat traffic was much busier later in the afternoon.
Highly recommend this trip but beginner paddlers might want to join a tour or get some practice paddling under their belt before attempting. |
