| no partners | | I have decided to do some exploring in the Mojave National Preserve over the next few months. It's not far from where I'm wintering. I had been sick for a couple of weeks (bad cough, not Covid) and this was my first foray since climbing out of bed. So, I didn't hike very far, didn't hike the entire trail (which isn't very long, and is basically a Jeep road.) I drove my '06 Honda CR-V as far in as I thought it safe to go, although I think I could have gone another half mile. The CR-V of that vintage has pretty good clearance, and of course, the all-wheel drive.
This is part of the New York Mountains, an area full of granite spires. The elevation is high enough to support a healthy forest of pinon pine and live oaks.
I'm not sure I have enough info to write a proper description, so maybe I'll save it for later. For instance, I'd like to find out if there is water in the drainage, as I heard there might be. Also I want to hike to the end of the trail. |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated A lot of rabbitbrush, which would have been spectacular a couple of months ago. |
