| no partners | | After seeing the beautiful newly dedicated Robles Pass Trailhead parking area along Irvington Road the other day, I decided to come back and do some hiking. Even though this place is close to home, I haven't hiked here in 6 years. There is a nice network of trails in the unit and I was glad to see fencing installed along Irvington to keep motorized vehicles out. Friday was a great day to be there and I encountered some groups of mountain bikers enjoying the trails, and evidence of equestrian use as well. I had some pleasant conversations with hikers I met along the trail; everyone was courteous and in good spirits.
Everything is pretty much the same as 6 years ago, but some slight trail realignments have been made, especially in the section near the new parking area. I hiked the Creosote Loop, Rocky 13, and Camero Loop trails.
When I finished the hike, I drove over to the Bittersweet Trailhead which is on the western boundary of the park. I had not been there before (I was close once) and wanted to check out vehicle access. You have to drive through a residential area, then a bumpy dirt road to get to it, either from Camino de Oeste or Ajo Way, so it is not as desirable as the alternatives. |
