With all the recent precipitation from our generous winter storms, I expected to see lots of water, and of course I did. Drove up through Mammoth to Winkelman, then on to Globe. Next it was on to Superior through that spectacular section of US 60. I stopped at Oak Flat CG to see if was a wet and boggy. It was. I had not been on this section of highway since March 2020, so I got to cross Pinto Creek on the new bridge for the first time. Next on the agenda was lunch at Los Hermanos, which made me even more happy. The food isn't that great, but that's not the point. It is just a friendly, basic, down to earth place to stop for a bite.
After lunch, I headed down to check out Battle Axe Road. I figured it had probably been roughed up a bit from some heavy flow events. Yup, and there was lots of water. Stopped at the gate by the artesian well, but didn't go any further. Things there were about the same as my last visit. Finished my day by driving to Winkelman to complete my lasso, then back home. |

Wildflowers Observation Light Poppies in the usual places along the roads I drove, but not in great abundance. Still a little early, so flower action should improve. |
