For some reason I thought it would be warmer at 2k feet, but it was around 30 when I rolled into the parking lot, and even colder after hitting the trail. Running shorts and a short sleeve shirt would probably be considered underdressed for that weather, and I'm sure people were looking at me a little funny. But it warmed up nicely after about 3 miles in, so no regrets.
One thing I noticed is that they apparently really love their graffiti here. Past the mile and a half mark, it went from being the kind that could reasonably be considered artistic, to low-effort scribbles.
Route finding was pretty easy, just follow the spray painted arrows. Missed one crossing on the way in and was on the "wrong" side of the creek for awhile, although there are many options on this one. Also headed up to the road grade prematurely and got cliffed out; wondering if this was the washout that caused them to give up on building the road.
Pretty area and fascinating place. |
