| no partners | | As a conditioner, and as a shakedown for a weeklong hike, I hiked AZT Passage 20 from the Vinyard Trailhead at Roosevelt Lake to Shake Spring, stayed overnight, and hiked back. Not the longest single day I’ve ever done, but the longest two days, for sure. The views of the lake are almost nonstop all day. It seems to be the end of the through-hiking season here. I only met two other hikers, and only one through-hiker, the whole time. Water was still flowing well at Buckhorn Creek and at Shake Spring. There was an owl that hung out at the Shake Spring campsite. It spent a lot of time just sitting in the trail watching me from twilight until dawn. It showed up as a big orange dot, reflected from my headlamp in its eye. I’ve never seen an owl beg. Perhaps its nest is nearby? |
