| no partners | | I’m writing this up a month after I did the hike. Sorry for the delay; I’ve been getting more planning and hiking than documenting.. I had been waiting for reports that the snow to the summit was reasonably clear, and as soon as I saw a report and a nice day, I headed up. I did the Old Baldy Trail up and the Super Trail down. It was 50° when I left my car at 6:30. As I continued up, I was passed by multiple parties. I think I must be getting older. From Bellows Spring, all the way to Baldy Saddle, there is an awesome set of switchbacks, and then again on the final climb to the summit. Got to admire the trail construction on this trail. I met several parties headed down as I was heading up. People start early on this mountain! At 11:10 I started my descent. Baldy Spring was a good source, although it is shown in the wrong place on the HAZ map. The USGS map puts it at 31.699103 -110.845818, which is pretty much where you find it right on the trail. The Super Trail, though an easy grade, is exposed to the afternoon sun. Even in mid-April, it was starting to get warm. And taking it all the way back to the parking lot turns out to be tedious and seems to take forever! |
