The hike starts at the "Discovery Trail" (which links the parking lot to the real trailhead). After a brief half mile, you begin the ascent up Superstition toward the Siphon Draw Basin and Flatiron (trail #53). The beginning of the trail is mostly loose rock with a slight grade. At the base of the mountain the trail matures into a much rockier and aggressive hike. The 2 miles (or so) that follow involve a lot of step work and a little climbing. It is challenging, but we encountered people of all ages on the trail, so don't be too intimidated. The trail is well marked with white and blue paint and all that is really required to summit is some will, energy, and a lot of water. |
