This is a popular hike in the area--perhaps moreso in the summer, but still there were a fair number of folks on the trail. On the way to the falls, the trail passes by a sledding area, and there were lots of family out partaking.
The trail was snow covered all the way, but it was packed well. Traction devices were very helpful but only semi-required spots are a 12 foot downclimb that was ice covered but had a rope to assist, and then the final climb up to the falls, which was also icy and provided a rope for an assist.
On the way, we crossed a frozen stream with some amazing ice-crystals "growing" on the surface.
The falls themselves were a little tricky to locate, if you didn't know where they were. The entry to the falls requires a stooped scoot. Pretty cool to see the falls inside the little "cave." |
