| no partners | | Brief leg stretcher tramp near the Tauparikākā Marine Reserve on the West Coast during the drive to Omarama. We looped the Beach Lake Walk first and then the Swamp Forest Walk. The second loop through the kahikatea swamp forest was more interesting than Dune Lake. Ship Creek was an odd inky black color, nutrient rich and constantly feeding the saturated swamp plants. Impressively massive White Pines thrive in these fertile lowlands. There were also some funky grey toadstools along the boardwalks. Nice hike, glad we didn't skip it. |
