Working our way down the Rim Trail towards the Pueblo Canyon Overlook, we cleared the trail all the way around Cold Spring Canyon. It was a beautiful sunny day, but with a lack of cloud cover and the high temperatures reaching 80 degrees, the breeze helped kick my body's evaporative cooling system into gear, resulting in some dehydration. I consumed about 4 quarts of fluids by the time I got home. Fortunately, there's plenty of shade on that grunt back up Murphy that time of day. If you go, you'll find several large trees on the rim trail to step over, duck under or walk around. We have a new saw ordered, and we're saving those trees to put it to the test. Can't wait. On the drive we saw three javalina and two roadrunners. Along the trail the black-headed grosbeak is becoming my favorite bird with it's beautiful, elusive song.
