| no partners | | Eighteen months ago, the tunnel was closed due to repair work. C&O Canal “thru-hike” complete, I still wanted to check out the tunnel. Today, I returned.
I knew it would be dark in the tunnel. To account for the angle of the sun, and to make sure I had some usable material, my plan was to 1) Hike over Tunnel Hill Trail to Lock 66. 2) Hike upstream (south) through the tunnel taking photos. 3) Hike back downstream (north) through the tunnel with my GoPro on. 4) Hike upstream through the tunnel, again, also with my GoPro on.
Further description in the photoset. (No sense repeating it here.)
After your visit, stop for lunch at Cheryl's Snack Shack, just south of Paw Paw, at the intersection of WV-9 and WV-29. (You drive past it on the way to the tunnel.) Open Friday-Sunday, and fully deserving their 4.9 * reviews.

Autumn Foliage Observation Isolated Mostly grounded. |

Wildflowers Observation None Zilcho -- even though temps were in 60s and Virginia Bluebell are cold hardy. (I've seen them at 27℉.) |
