Early portions of the trail are cattle grazed and you may be serenaded by the sounds of annoyed cattle as you disturb their grazing.
The trail itself crosses areas that have seen significant fire damage though remains easy to follow thanks to well placed cairns. Trail conditions vary, though there are large sections that are some combination of loose, rocky, and off camber....enough so that my feet, knees, and ankles weren't happy with my decisions by the end of the day...then again, I tend to hike in trail runners so YMMV.
It was a beautiful day to be out, temps on the cool side (when we left the parking lot, temps were right at 32F) with a brisk breeze up on the ridge. Climbing up towards the junction with Two Bar Trail yields views of Two Bar Mountain, while looking back provides views of the rolling hills towards Roosevelt Lake (and great views of the lake in the distance as well).
Since we were in the area, we decided to pick up Two Bar Trail and have a look at the not too distant ruins. Some really large sections of stacked rock walls and pottery shards along with a gigantic boulder that looks like it's mooning you After enjoying the rest and the view, we retraced our tracks back to the car. |

Happier when hiking....I may not move fast (and I'm often distracted by wildflowers), but I'll get there eventually |
