| no partners | | | I had been wanting to hike the Cave Creek trail for some time. Vlado and I took the dog up, camped and set out the next morning. The weather was really nice and we had a breeze for most of the day. We decided to take the Skunk Tank trail to make a loop, however I don't think I would do it that way again. We really enjoyed our time by the creek and the gentle rolling up and down of the trail. Around three miles in we stopped and had lunch and then splashed around in the creek. Feeling refreshed we thought we'd tackle the climb up to the skunk tank. In retrospect we decided we would have preferred to go out the same way we came in. There wasn't a whole lot the Skunk Tank trail had going for it. A lot of climbing, no shade, no water. Well there was one very small stream where we stopped and took a breather and refilled our bottles. But overall, just a lot of work with very little reward. The views during the beginning of the climb were pretty fantastic but after that it was just tedious. The dog performed fantastically and so did we. This is the longest hike we have done together. It showed us what we can do, but we wouldn't do that particular trail again soon. Cave Creek was nice though! |
