| no partners | | I've been sorely disappointed in the wildflower season this past year, so I figured I'd pop over to the botanical garden to get my fix. As an added bonus, they have an orchid exhibit installed in one of their exhibition galleries (until May 11, 2025) - orchids are my absolute favorite flower, but I am terrible at keeping them alive, so this was a great way to enjoy a wide variety of blooms all at once. Coincidentally, the butterfly pavillion was also open.
The weather was especially cooperative - with overcast skies, which started to break up as the day moved on - the clouds helped make for easier flower photography and kept the heat at bay. I guess a lot of other folks saw the weather and decided to visit as well, as the garden was much busier than I had anticipated for a Monday morning. I was definitely not disappointed in the showing of blooms at the garden - the desert wildflower trail especially is in peak bloom and the many cactuses throughout the garden are just getting started. The orchid exhibit did not disappoint - I've never seen so many orchids packed together - in some ways it was a little overwhelming and I was sorry to not have brought a proper camera with a longer lens.
If you're looking for a flower fix or are into stalking butterflies, now's a great time to visit the garden! If you do not have a membership and are on a limited budget, you might be able to snag a culture pass from your local library - I'm told the botanical garden is the most popular and difficult to grab culture pass. Additionally, the botanical garden has a community day (every 2nd Tuesday of the month) - don't forget to visit the garden's website to reserve your ticket if you plan to go on community day as I imagine it can be quite popular.
Wildlife spotted: A great egret, a lizard that was much too fast for me to photograph, a couple of squirrel and plenty of doves, quail and house finches...not to mention the numerous insects! |

Happier when hiking....I may not move fast (and I'm often distracted by wildflowers), but I'll get there eventually |
