| no partners | | Off the beaten path to check out two "locals only" spots in the Silver Lake area. First up, Machado Postpiles, a huge, strange blob of brown diabase hexagonal columns thrust up amid a sea of white granite. Then back over the dam and a bit west on Highway 88 to check out Emigrant Wall, a beautiful, clean, low-angle granite face offering easy/moderate 3-pitch bolted and trad routes. About 5mi/1000'/3hrs hike for Machado and 3.5mi/1000'/1.5hrs for E Wall.
