I must admit, in all my years of hiking I've ignored South mountain thinking it was boring and crowded. Boy was I wrong. There were quite a few hikers and some moutinan bikers, but this area surprised me. Once you get back in on the trail you forget you're even in Phoenix. Around fatman's pass, you can explore different boulders, and try to get to high spots. Fun times.
