The round-trip was approximately 6.4 miles and reached an elevation gain of 1100 feet according to my GPS. At the lower end of this hike it is heavenly congested with hikers, but as you go farther up the canyon there are less people. At a Hohokem site there are small bowl-shaped depressions in a slab of rock. The location is right in the middle of the trail. This is about 1/10 of a mile before the reach Pima Canyon dam. This hike offers quite a few photo opportunities. On the way back I encountered an 8-inch Gila monster. Like any good hiker, I gave him the right away. |
