Bob,Wally, and I did a couple hikes the day before than stayed the night at Big Lake. We thought we might fish a little but it didn't pan out. Bob cooked up some grilled cheese for lunch and Brats for dinner that really hit the spot. The Elk went on all night long :wist: Woke up to some eggs and toast and hit the trail by 8:00. We started on the East Fork. We spotted some Elk in the first mile then headed up to the top. We stopped by the plane wreck and Wally showed us a little more than we seen last time. Once we got to the posts without the signs we headed up to the first summit. The views were great and I'm glad I went up to the carin this time. The weather was great. We headed down the West Fork to the next views and took lunch there. PB&J and some trail mix Mmmm. Headed on down to the connector and it was a little warm for Oct. but very nice. We came across a few people and dogs on the West Fork and none going up the East Fork. Each Fork has it's own quality Like the rock formations on the East and the area along the River on the West. The trees on the West Fork have been cut off the trail and it made it easier this time down. The connector crossing has logs now so I didn't fall in this time. :)
This part of trail seems long but went quicker this time around. There were a few guys comming across that were making the loop going the other way. This part of the loop has the thickest forest. We made it back to the jeep than off to get the Dinner Bob said he would cook up. He didn't disappoint. Mmmm! Great sunset over the lake and a ton of stars.Great camfire and Great time! We were surprised at 2:00am by a thunder, lighting, and rain storm off and on until 5:00am then got up and ate breakfast watched the sun rise over the lake and headed home. Great trip and great company! Thanks to Wally and Bob!
