| no partners | | This was an impromptu backpacking trip, taken on an impulse after the heavy rains earlier in the week.
I hoped that there would be a lot of water along this Loop (there was) so that I could save a couple pounds by carrying only 2 liters of water instead of my usual 3. I also saved another couple pounds by not bringing certain items, giving me a new low pack weight of (I’m guessing) 28 lbs. I could feel the difference.
This was my second attempt at Charlebois, after an unsuccessful try in the spring. This time I opted to go CW. For me, backpacking downhill is very hard/dangerous, especially when it's steep and when I’m exhausted after a day or two of backpacking. I figured I it would be easier going up Cardiac Hill while I was fresh. (It was.)
More later if anyone wants.

I made Water Reports on RS, but I don't see them showing on this page. (But I just now noticed that they're on MapDEX.)

Stats:
I tried to Merge 4 triplogs into 1. Apparently I didn't do it correctly because the total stats didn't automagically show here. So I'm manually entering approximations.
Peralta to Charlebois (Thursday): 7 mi. 7:40 am to 3:30pm | 9 hours total, 7h 0m net, for my usual 1 mph. (RS didn't start logging right away because Android had denied it G.P.S. Permission and I didn't figure out why RS wasn't tracking until a half hour after start. Then I wasted an hour being confused where to pick up the trail at the larger wash crossings. I spent 45 minutes trying to find "The Pipe" at Bluff Spring. Another hour for two (or three?) breaks to gather/filter water.)
Next day (Friday): Charlebois to a Campsite along Whiskey Spring Trail. About 6.8 miles. Started at 9:45 am, stopped about 4:45 pm. 7 hours total, maybe 5.5 net. (Three breaks to gather/filter water. Spent a half hour inspecting the damage at LaBarge. Spent a half hour looking for the spring at Whiskey Spring.)
Saturday: Campsite to Peralta TH. 5.6 miles including 45 minutes of taking the wrong path, twice. On trail at 8:30 am. Arrive Peralta TH at 1:30. 5 hours total time. |

Be careful. It's not quite "a jungle out there." But history shows that it can be dangerous out there. |
