| no partners | | I kicked off my birthday weekend with what is now my favorite Superstitions loop hike. Bluff Springs to Dutchman to Bull Pass up Black Top Mesa to Dutchman to Peralta.
It was a long one but the views and scenery are amazing the whole way. LaBarge and Charlebois are beautiful right now. The Supes may not have much for fall color but they have a monopoly on winter color. The cottonwoods are beautiful right now. At times, I kept wondering if I'd taken a wrong turn somewhere and left the desert. Charlebois also has a nice big pool of water right now.
Views from the top of Black Top Mesa are astounding. I don't see why this is not a more popular destination and the trail to the top is as nice as any official trail in the area.
I didn't see a whole lot of folks out today. A few coming back from Fremont Saddle on the way to the TH and a couple near the Peralta/Dutchman intersection. Strangely enough, I saw a bunch of folks on Bull Pass. Usually this trail is a no man's land. I saw group of 6 or 7 hikers, a few guys on their way to BTM for an overnight, and I had the pleasure of meeting te-wa and rae-rae with a group from the Arizona Backpacking Club. It was cool to run into them.
By the way... BACK ON TOP OF THE MILEAGE AND ELEVATION CHARTS!!! BOOYAH! (atleast for a moment)
edit: spoke too soon... darn you Joe Bartels! |
