38th St TH (quite a few cars): Well this was Plan B as the temp was warmer than what I thot it would be for Plan A which I will save for a cooler day. So off I went actually thinking of doing just a simple loop around Happy Hour Ridge (or Mount 1955 - happens to be my birth year thus why I'm running with the title) but with each little breeze I was encouraged to go further. So I thot I would hook up with VOAZ and as I circled around the west end I wondered if there was a more direct route to VOAZ.

I took a couple dips and then ended up on a trail that looked like it would at least get me to the trail that hooks up all the horseshoes. Lo and behold, after hiking almost straight up the side of the hill, I landed right at the intersection with VOAZ. They really did a good job with this trail as for some reason I was tired already but this trail lets you catch your breath as you wind your way slowly up the hill.

At the intersection with 302 there were several hikers going both directions. Two bike riders had passed by me on VOAZ and now were heading down the steep and high rock 304. We all watched in amazement as they bumped their way down. I would see several bike riders all over the trails today. I gave thot to visiting Ruth today but decided it was a tad too warm for my liking (they don't call me Tibberlocks for nothing  ) so I continued on to the next shoe.

After almost completing that eastern shoe I headed back toward 100 in a northeasterly direction, once again taking some trails I hadn't done before. (By the way, I see someone has added the title Valley Throne off to the right of 1A.) I knew where I wanted to end up so that is how I decided which trails to try. It was a good day on the trail with fabulous clouds and a nice breeze from time to time. No lizards, 3 downed saguaros, a few birds.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
