Sarrah wanted to get out somewhere to swim with the kids and try out her paddle board. Twin Lakes near Leadville fit the bill. We had a rare stay at a campground the Lakeview campground to be exact because of the burn ban fires were not allowed at disperse campsites. Set up camp and hiked down to a lagoon first day from the campsite via the Colorado trail which goes through the campground. We shared the lagoon with one other group and water was warmer than the large lakes. Everyone took turns on the paddle board and we spent 5 hours swimming. Hike back up to camp for dinner and campfire. Next day broke camp and drove to a few area which had no fee thanks to all the employees apparently leaving and no envelopes. It was much windier and rough. A line of storms came in and we packed up to leave even ducking under a full sized raft that came flying down the beach stopping in the rocks about .5 miles down the beach. As soon as it blew through it was gone and we opted to reinfoate the paddle board and swim some more. Brought the kayak to work on rolls, but never ended up using it. Didn’t want to carry it along with the paddle board from camp and after packing up and unpacking didn’t feel motivated to carry it down to the beach. Fun two days hiking, camping, swimming, and paddling. Noah now has a hammock in the front of the truck which worked well. He was getting shoved into the corner by his older sibling with the old set up.

Don't know if this is the best place for this track, but here goes. Beautiful 9 mile hike on excellent trail, well suited for a key exchange or shuttle. No killer climbs. You start with views of Mt. Elbert to the north over Twin Lakes and end with a descent to Clear Creek Lake. Trailhead easy to get to. This is part of Segment 11 of the Colorado Trail. See gps track and photos.
