I've been hitting pretty hard in the gym and that's been my focus for the past month. Needed an easy stroll to loosen my legs. Nothing exciting, went up Wild Burro and looped around Alamo Springs over the cutoff back down to Wild Burro. Did take a detour on the way back to the car and decided to check out the infamous Ritz trailhead facilities. Pretty swanky, air conditioned bathrooms with high end paper linens to wash your hands.
upper jav - mustang - alamo - down spur and wild burro back. this is a good route. prob my new preferred. got some decent cloud cover and a little merciful breeze occasionally
Finally got out for a quick spin. Between the holidays and a persistent cold that wouldn't go away for three weeks I've had to stay indoors other than short walks with the dogs.
Uneventful hike, went up Wild Burro, up Alamo Spring and back down the spur back to Wild Burro. Saw a side trail and explored that for about two minutes and it led to Peak #3998. Not an exciting peak, but well traveled enough that people have put a little cairn at the summit.
Brisk but completely calm & peaceful morning as opposed to the 35-45 MPH winds from the night before. Breaking in a new pair of high top boots and wanted a hike with some bailout options if I couldn't make them work. First time in 25+ years I've owned high top hiking boots and it felt weird not to hike in my regular trail running shoes.
Felt nice to get out, it's been a long winter and for some reason the worst weather has always been on a weekend. Kept me cooped up at home other than some hiking and walking around my neighborhood. Only upshot is that I've been quite active at my home gym and I look like I've been lifting.
Gray and overcast. No real flowers up here, which is funny as there are quite a few near Sombrero and even a good amount of flowering chuparosa on the drive up. I did hear a hooter near the hotel. Now less than 10,000' to 4.4 million feet of AEG.
Focusing my efforts in my garage gym this summer and needed to stretch my legs on an easy hike. Went up the wash, then up Wild Burro to the intersection with Alamo Springs. Took Alamo Springs to the spur and continued back along the actual Wild Burro trail to add a few extra minutes to the hike in order to get to 2 hours on my feet.
Counterclockwise after work hike with Jim. My 3rd Tortolita hike, first time on this loop. Heard great horned owls at dusk. Spooked a javelina that was sleeping in the middle of the trail in the dark on the way back.
