Use the regional map feature on HAZ to find a nearby hike that I hadn't done yet. Came up with this nice little loop. My plans were somewhat changed when I got to the park. It was Silent Sunday and road access to the top was restricted. Instead, I parked at the Kiwanis TH and took Kiwanis Trail to the National and then did the Buena Vista Loop going CW. East on the National to Corona de Loma and then down Corona to the Deser Classic. Took the Classic west to the Telegraph. Then up and over the saddle via Telegraph and Kiwanis to get back to the car. Tried to jog this, but these are some tough trails to run. Kiwanis isn't too bad, but there are some big "steps" which are no fun to run. National was nice, but it was a steady uphill climb. Signed the registry that occurs at the high point. Book is full. Time for a new one. Corona is brutal to run. Rocky and steep. Better down than up, but not by much. Classic is a nice trail to run, though the west end is a little more rocky than the east. Telegraph, tough run. Especially 9+ miles in. Some fairly steep sections got me walking :( . Kiwanis. The big steps are not much more fun going down than they are going up. Nice run, though I wasn't successful in doing it completely. Good workout. Legs were stiff on Monday. Weather was perfect. No wildlife, but saw over 50 people throughout the loop.

Got to the pima canyon TH early but not early enough to beat the crowed. I had to park way back so instead of walking the road I went down the first trail I found witch was east pima loop. I then connected to the west pima loop (couldn't find the trail names to link them ) and connected with the ridgeline trail. I took the ridgeline to javelin trail and walked maybe 100 feet to connect to the Mormon loop witch I took to the national trail. I took national the rest of the way to Buena vista look out. On the way back I decided to go through hidden valley and once it reconnected with the national trail I stayed on it in till the parking lot. My GPS said I had done 2771 feet of AEG but that didn't seem right there was a lot of up and down but it couldn't have been that much when I reach the highest elevation it said 2.1k so I just went with that.

Very nice loop. Went down the Corona(steep and very rocky). Desert Classic basically flat with some rolling hills. The upper portions of Telegraph and early portion of the National were a little steep but short lived, nice views of the valley while you walk of the National.

A quick solo hike today. Did this as a shuttle hike. Started at the Telegraph Pass TH trail, then National, and then took the Corona de Loma trail to the Warpaint TH. I really liked the Corona de Loma trail, it was pretty quiet and very tough! Happy Birthday self!

Took some friends new to hiking, to this nice little hike. This is a great hike for friends and family that come into town. They get a bit of work and there is some mild bolder scrambling. You get to drive to the top of South Mountain for some great views, and then you are in another world in the Hidden Valley. The 60' long "Tunnel", and "Fat Man's Pass" are pretty neat. This seems to be Chuckwalla World up here. We saw at least a dozen on the black rocks.

Wendi and I did this one one yesterday. Our longest hike yet. It would have been an accomplishment if we hadn't set out to do the Buena Vista/Hidden Valley 3.5 mile hike instead of the 9.5 mile hike.
We got to the fork in the road and being such a beatiful day every mountain biker in phoenix seemed to be on the trail so we took the Corona not really knowing how many more miles that would add to the hike. Turned it into a real adventure.
We made a one change to the hike coming down Corona to the Desert Classic we crossed over the ridge to the next valley and hiked the wash to get some shade and cool down. I found a nice flat boulder that made for a nice 10' but slide. This brought us out just bit behind the Water Tower. We had planned to catch the National Trail at 48th st but running out of day we took a chance on the telegraph trail and that paid off prolly saved us 4 miles.
Didn't care for the Desert Classic portion cause of the mountain bikers but otherwise an excellant hike...If you've planned for it... Luckily I had extra water and thanks to John who supplemented our water and provided a little morale boost.
We started at noon and finished at last light cutting it real close and exhausted

Excellent Hike. Very popular with trail runners and Mt. Bikers. Need to keep an eye and ear open as bikes approach rather quickly in spots. Actually saw some Mt. Unicyclists too! Never thought I'd see such a thing.

Did a bit more than the normal loop, as I hiked a couple of areas off trail in addition, including exploring the trail that leads almost to the Gila Valley Lookout.

My difficulty:   1/2 (of 5)
