Beginners group checking out the new trail route. Hikers split up to enjoy the mid canyon with Terri...I did the basic with Mary and Lynda...Will and William. Luster,Clinton, robin, and Larry up with Terri.

Great canyon...nice approach.

Trail work... re-routing the drop in off the private property! Luster, Clinton and Teresa pitched in. Cut the new trail... still need to complete the sidehill and some clearing. Nice route...

Lynda asked for a tour... she's had trouble finding the trail down into the canyon. The new fence cuts off the route; we need to finish the the new trail. It routes outside the new fenceline, departing once you exit the upper gate. Moves nicely through the rock garden then down the west side of 1000' Cut. Once down to the first dryfall, the trail joins the old trail down and around into the canyon.

No-Shows lowered the group size... nice after the huge hit from yesterday. Jim, Luster, Jens joined by Lynda and Kurt for this short and interesting loop. Folks driving over from Roswell arrived minutes too late; we leave on time unless folks call before the depart time. Phone turns off when we start hiking! Other no shows... no call... and no show.

Still my favorite. This canyon has the simplicity and diversity to do again and again without boredom. The climbs are not too challenging and there are various ways to do the canyon.

The marbling rock is one of the spots I never tire of enjoying.

walk in the clouds today... steady drizzle! Will joined me for this training day. We cut it short; the wet did lack appeal... needed to be colder to allow for rain gear!

no one signed up for this first of series canyon traversing hikes, so I diverted a couple hours over to re-routing and improving the traversing sections... the really nice augment: connected the section from Ortega South, middle above the lower dryfall, to Jim's Cut.. and across "A" Ridge North and down into Terri's Cut right above the middle falls where Terri's Traverse connects over from the "A" trail. So... now we have a great route that allows easy access across three canyons and all the connecting ridges.

These "minor" canyons (rising into the 6,000' levels as opposed to 7,000'+ of the major cuts) make for great intermediate level hikes... as does just hiking the big cuts to about that level. Nice to not have to do in/out routes...

It will be interesting to see just how many different connecting lower loops we can develop from all these lower traverses. Terri is back next month; perhaps start a weekly series based on just that?

Light rain... but hopefully it will clear by 3pm for the Beginner's Hike over in the Alamo Canyon drainage.
