A steep and scenic little hike. Aside from a few teenage doofuses kicking rocks down the switchbacks, it was a lot of fun.

First time visiting Boulder and Flatirons. You could say it was love at first hike.

Parked right at the trailhead, took one of the last few spots. Started early enough to where there was not a lot of trail traffic. Did not encounter too many people going up, going down it was more crowded (4th of July weekend).

It seemed like a steady constant climb to the top. Trail were well marked although there was 1 section where we almost went off trail. Stacks of rocks in one section of the trail, bridge near the 1st flat iron was a nice touch!
We were able to make it to the 2nd flatiron, few hikers at the top and saw some climbers too. View of Long's from the 2nd flat iron was beautiful, you could easily see the town from up the 2nd flatiron. Trees all around, rocks not as slick as they are here in Sedona. Lots of critters (rock squirrels?) that seems super friendly.

On the way back decided to do the Blue Mesa trail which was a more rolling gentle trail, looks like it would be a good one to run on. Certainly will come back to hike this again. :)

I took an early flight on Friday to make sure I had enough time to explore the trails in Boulder Mountain Park before my weekend coaching class started. First I started with a hike up the switchbacks to the top of the Flatirons #1&2. Then I took the Flatirons loop to the Mesa trail for about 4-5 more miles (trail running) before returning to Chautauqua Park. Awesome park and endless trails!
