Nice hike on one of Colorado’s busiest trails thanks to Vail moving back opening day. Hit Breck up on way to our digs so M could get some turns. Beaver Creek Manana. I was told they are closing the trail soon and going to start charging next year. Don’t know the accuracy of this, but multiple locals have told me this in the last 24 hours. Apparently, people can’t Refrain from vandalism. Nice hike. M loved it except for the Stellar or Mountain Jays eyeballing her lunch.

Hiked this trail on the way to Boulder. Spectacular lake and Spouting rock waterfall is pretty amazing too since you can walk behind it. Seemed like lots of water compared to some photos I've seen.

Day 5
Hanging Lakes, CO

Very nice hike. Weather was great. The parking lot was full, on our way out. So show up early, if you want to guarantee a parking spot. After the hike we drove toward our next destination. My sister scored us a free hotel room in Snowmass/Aspen. We checked into the hotel early, shopped around, maybe had a drink or two, then called it an early night. We wanted an early start for tomorrows hike.

I'd actually stopped at this spot on the way into Dillon, but as the parking lot resembled Camelback on a really bad day, I'd decided to skip it for the time being and head onward. Really glad that Janelle brought this hike up to me when more weather was forecast for Wednesday afternoon, thus putting off plans for a 14er on that day. My advice to anyone wanting to do this trail: go early, go on a weekday, and bring a handicap sticker. ;) We were lucky to remember at the last minute that we did have someone in the car who qualified, and so were able to grab a spot in the busy lot almost right away.

The trail begins after following the sidewalk along the river for a short way. When the real trail begins, so does the elevation. It goes up almost without pause. There are several nice bridges along the way, and several small waterfall areas. And although the parking lot resembles Echo Canyon's, the trail is more like Squaw: steep and containing lots and lots of rock steps. The rewards are worth it: a beautiful lake with gorgeous blue-green water, adorned with two spectacular waterfalls. Following the trail up to Spouting Rock reveals more falls, one of which is literally bursting forth from the rock wall. Two truly magical sights.

If you're in the area and have some time, stop by this place and check it out. Just don't park illegally anywhere or your car will be ticketed. Though I guess if you're desperate enough, it could be worth it.. ;)

I am very behind on triplogs but give me a good head cold and I'll catch up!

This was part of my Colorado adventure this summer that I really wanted to wait until I had Photoshop to process the photos but that day may never come. :(

I was very lucky to be able to join Liz and her family for the first part of the trip. We had a blast and this Hanging lake was my suggestion on how to spend a rainy day. It was all of the way back toward Glenwood Springs but it was worth it.
As usual, my triplog is in the photos I took along the way!

Beautiful place near Glenwood springs. Easy to miss on I70 and glad I got to do it before we moved out of state. Also don't miss the upper falls at spouting rock!
