| no partners | | I had planned another hike for today but when I saw MEWhiteman's report on the new Javelina Pass Trail and that mt98dew had run the area on the 20th, I wanted to check it out.
I headed west on the Ocotillo Tral and just past the junction with Ridgeback I was thinking it was just a tad too warm for Tibberlocks. I paused in the shade of a tree and the breeze hit me and I decided I would go on, but instead of doing Ridgeback, I would just come back on Sidewinder. As I continued west I encountered some hikers and bikeriders. This part seems longer than it should have been but you do need to get around Ridgeback and its suburb mountains.
I crossed the wash where the barbed-wire fence goes through to the other side. I met up with the Javelina Pass Trail. It heads north and then zigs and zags going back across the wash. I'm not sure why they didn't just head north before the wash. I think it's only about 1/2 mile before you join up with the Sidewinder Trail that eventually comes to the junction with Ridgeback. Well from the title, you know I decided I would do Ridgeback. I like the grade on the north side while going up Ridgeback and I was hoping the breeze would be in my favor... not so much.
As I hiked the level to the approach I suddenly ran out of energy and I didn't have any sport beans as I had run out. I just kept on keeping on and forgot that I was suddenly tired . I encountered a horseback rider on a beautiful grey. I have sure seen some beautiful horses out here. I headed up the Overlook and then back down to join back up with the Ocotillo, getting more tired, but I knew a Huck It was waiting for me.
As I was drinking my beer, a cactus wren must have smelled it as it landed on my side mirror. I had my side door open for the breeze. Hopefully this is truly the last of our heat; I don't know how you all did it being here during the whole summer . I've already got a Plan B to go with my Plan A for next summer.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
