| no partners | | My wife & I took our 7 year old daughter on her first pack trip. We brought 2 horses - one with a pack saddle for the gear, and one with a riding saddle. The two beautiful girls took turns hiking & riding on the way to the ranch Friday afternoon. While we were eating dinner in the dark Friday night at the ranch, I shined my flashlight across the meadow, and there were several sets of eyes sparkling within 30-40 yards. The white tail deer are very comfortable with campers, because there were 2 doe bedded down about 15 yards from our tent in the morning.
I was glad that it was dark Friday night when we walked in or my wife would have seen the huge piles of bear scat everywhere and been freaked out all night. It was a fun, quick trip. The girls picked apples Saturday morning while I loaded the horses, and we left camp at about 9 am. We made it back to the trailhead by 12:30, and it was pleasant and breezy the whole way.
The best part (besides having my wife join me for a trip) was seeing the 7 year old with all her front teeth missing eat apples with her molars.
Some apples were ripe, but most need another couple of weeks to be at their best. |
